Deepfelt gratitude for Coach Peter Cook's years of contribution as the team's Director. From getting all the new families over the line and to the first practice, to chasing sponsorships and balancing budgets - Coach Peter was a force for good on the Maroon's coaching staff and board. Thanks again!
Au revoir to Amelia Armstrong. Graduating and going to the University Of Arkansas (go Hawgs!) she was an incredible contributor to our team as a Captain and racer, and to Texas NICA as a Student Advisory Cabinet member, a GRiT Ambassador, the best awards announcer ever, and a winning racer! You'll be missed young lady!
Congrats to everyone, our team place 5th overall at the Texas State Championship race.
Even though they don't give middle school pennants, our MS team was also 5th overall on the day!
Congrats to our Texas State Champion - Dash O'Neill!
Congrats to everyone who raced all season. It was a long season and y'all did a ton of hard work - it paid off handsomely.
Coaches and Parents. Take a moment to consider how you'll volunteer next year and reach out to the team so we can factor in your contribution. Level 3 Coach? Volunteer for the board? Race-day positions? Step up and be a bigger part of next season!

If you haven't taken the survey - you're late. Please take it ASAP.
It will take between 10 and 15 minutes
All parents, coaches, and athletes are strongly encouraged to participate in the survey. Results thus far are interesting, and we're definitely going to change some stuff up next year, make sure your voice is heard
The survey is anonymous.
What a venue! Sketchy starts, punchy climbs, fast descents, good fun! The weather was awesome, the food was great (Zain's smashburgers won State Champs!), and our athletes had fun all around.
21 Maroons swarmed RPR for the weekend. We had 8 of our riders take a top 5 and an even dozen Maroons taking a top 10.
One of my favorite moments was when we took 5th overall at the final race of the season—completely unexpected. When they called our name, no one knew what to do. “Coach, do we go up there? Just the kids? Just the coaches? What happens now?!” It was this beautiful, chaotic surprise. And honestly, that’s the dream—when a team is so focused on having fun, supporting each other, and just loving the ride, that the results take care of themselves. Accidentally fast, born from joy.
Austin High ranked 5th in the state, Austin High Composite Middle School ranked 5th in the state. Results
We brought 138 (31 unique) racers to 6 different races this year. We brought 20-27 riders per race, averaging 23. We had some incredible pre-rides, great team meals, and won the Golden Spoon! As far as racing, the Maroons secured 52 individual podiums, one State Championship, and one Team State overall. Our highest attendance was the Warda race with 27 athletes!
We had 13 athletes attend all races, 8 attended 5, 6 attended 4, 2 attended twice and 3 only raced once. All Maroons athletes raced at least one race this season.
Time-wise, our athletes practices for almost 3,000 hours this season. We saw improvements at every level and in ever athlete. We really hope you all keep riding this summer and come back next year ready to rip! See you soon.
NICA has strict rules about gathering as a team in the off-season. These rules protect riders from overtraining and teams from procuring an unfair advantage at the expense of their athletes. Racers, don't register for races with the team name. Coaches, don't wear your coach gear and coach kids, etc.
That said, there are no rules against gathering with your buddies and parents and going for rides - it is in-fact encouraged! Here are some pages with advice for riding, training, and racing in the off-season:
Don't forget about the NICA Central United States Regional Championship on November 8th, 2025. The fastest athletes from the central United States (AR, IN, KY, KS, MO, MS, NE, OK, TN, TX, WI ) will gather in Fayetteville Arkansas at Centennial Park. It'll be a tough race, and talent from the whole country will be on display.
As we head into the off-season, I just want to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to each of you. Your time, energy, patience, and passion made a real impact — not just in helping our riders grow stronger and faster, but in building a team culture that’s supportive, positive, and fun. You are the heart of this program, and I’m deeply grateful for all you’ve poured into it.
Even though the season's officially over, I hope you’ll keep riding, keep building your own stoke, and keep sharing the love of mountain biking wherever you can. This energy is contagious — and it’s a big part of what makes our team so special.
I fully expect (and hope!) to see all of you back next season. We’ve built a solid foundation, and I’m excited to make next year even bigger, better, and more fun than ever. With this group of coaches, I know we can take it to the next level.
Thanks again for everything you’ve done. Let's keep the wheels turning!
