Weather in Texas can be unpredictable. NICA has some rules (click for all rules) we always follow:
Lighting (30 min stop)
Cold (below freezing, no ride)
Beyond that, we track the weather using Weather.gov and determine the potential muddiness (or slipperiness around ATX) using TexMesoNet. Here are some example links to place we ride and race.
Soil and slipperiness:
Weather forecast (the same one NICA uses to determine if a race will happen). To adjust for any location, just get the Lat/Long for that location and swap it into one of the URLs.
Flooding in the Barton Creek Watershed. Flow listed in cubic feet per second (cfs)
CFS of 1-100 is stagnant to a slow trickle.
CFS of 100-200 is moving, like a nice stream. Good to swim
CFS of 280-350 is kayakable. People swim in these flows, but they also tend to drown if they're not good swimmers.
CFS > 350 gets dangerous
