Welcome to February and the first race of the 2025 Spring NICA season!
Today is your first pre-ride of the 2025 season! Our starting time is NOON today. Be sure to be in camp by 10:30 so you can prepare to make our pre-ride start time. If you're late, we will not wait for you.
February 2nd - Tomorrow is our first race - The Candy Rush in Sugarland. This is a fun, fast, flowy race.
February 22nd - Our second race will be Millican in College Station. This race will be a fitness test. This is an event with both North and South conferences.
March 8th - Our 3rd race will be at Reveille Peak Ranch in Burnet. This race will be one of the more technical races of the season and our riders will feel at home in the rocky, punchy terrain at RPR. This is an event with both North and South conferences.
March 22nd - Our 4th race is at the very fun Sacket Family ranch in Troy. This is a fun, flowy track with some punchy hills, some fun features, and lots of very spectator-friendly viewing. Bring the whole family, they'll get to see you shred! This is an event with both North and South conferences. NO PETS allowed!
Wear your team kit, hoodies, t-shirts, beanies, and socks at the races.
Always wear Maroons kit on podiums!!!
Rider petitions for Millican are due by the 13th of February - get them in Maroons!
Everyone - at these races be sure to take pictures and upload them to the gallery. The better the pictures, the more riders we attract year-over-year.

To quote the 90's rap visionary, Ice Cube: "You better SHEG yo' self, before you wreck yo' self"
This month, we’re spotlighting ‘H' - Helmet .
All riders must wear a helmet, it is a Maroons and NICA requirement. We also STRONGLY recommend that riders and coaches only use 5-star certified helmets. Last I checked, some colors (including maroon!) of the exceptional Specialized Camber were only $35 bucks! If you want to try one on, Maddie wears a small and Ellie has a medium.
Besides our usual Greenbelt shenanigans, we will continue to focus on venue-specific techniques. Tree-gates and flat corners for Millican. Rocky climbs and loose, fast corners for Reveille, and punchy, technical climbs for Troy.
We will also be practicing race starts and doing passing drills a lot in the coming months. You will all know what gear to start in and how to pass safely and efficiently.
As a general goal, we will be focusing on sustained efforts and fitness to make sure our athletes have the ability to hold an effort for 5/10/15/20 miles without suffering from fatigue. These first 2 courses should not test our rider's technical ability but we want to be sure that all of our athletes can hold their pace for their entire ride so they're able to meet their goals.
Don't worry, on March 8th NICA will be providing some rocks so y'all can stretch your tech-legs a bit ;)
Congrats to our new Level 2 coaches: Cindy, Joel, Mike, and Steven! Coach Matt Rainwaters, Coach Stephen Meckley, and Coach Dave O'Neil are on the way - get that First Aid and CPR wrapped up Maroons!
Good times were had at the January Coach's meeting at Pinthouse Pizza. The coaching brain trust spent 3 1/2 hours tweaking our approach to PODS, discussed practice attendance, and did a full review of each rider's performance over the last 3 months.
Make sure you're there for the Coach's ride this month on February 16th! RSVP to the Google Calendar invite!
Coaches, be sure to take advantage of the Weather and Maps links on the site when deciding where to ride
Speak with your riders regarding their goals and any petitions they are considering. Petition due dates are coming fast now, and if a rider wants consideration for a series points win, they'll need to be in their final category soon.
