Coach Thad is a Silca Pro. If you're interested in trying out waxed drivetrains (1)(2) or really nice bike pumps, hit him up.
We have a discount on Formula 369 pro. It's pretty much just sugar and salt, but if you don't want to make it yourself, this is a very economical way (<$0.50 serving) to prevent a bonk. Use code AHSMTB20 for 20% off.

To quote the 90's rap visionary, Ice Cube: "You better SHEG yo' self, before you wreck yo' self"
This month, we’re spotlighting ‘G' - Gloves .
Saving the best for last, gloves are the only non-required essential. How is something that is not required an essential? Well, I'm glad you asked. Gloves help you hold onto the grips, they give you something to wipe sweat and snot when you're riding, they're between your soft palms and the sharp rocks of the Greenbelt when you fall, and they're an easy way to express your own sense of style.
All that said, you can ride without gloves - it's just not as smart as riding with gloves. To each their own on our final SHEGWAT Spotlight of the season!
Cool camping, snakes, shreds, and smiles! Warda has been a banner destination since 1992 and this weekend was no different.
Our team had an epic time. Pre-ride was great, coaches and riders turned hot laps. Fajitas for dinner and tacos for breakfast fueled the team to a > 1/3 podiums for both high and middle school riders! Austin high closed out the season 8th out of 25 teams in the South Conference.
Big thank you to Coach Peter for towing the trailer and leading the teardown of the camp yet again. Thanks to Tyler for stepping into the role of camp chef this year as well - you cook a mean meal my man!
Austin High ranked 8th in the state, Austin High Composite Middle School ranked 3th in the state. Results
All good things must come to an end. We've enjoyed this year, lived for practicing with y'all, and found that watching you get better at the sport we all love was one of the most rewarding things ever. Good job guys, we're proud of you.
November 8th is the NICA Central United States Regional Championship. The fastest athletes from the central United States (AR, IN, KY, KS, MO, MS, NE, OK, TN, TX, WI ) will gather in Fayetteville Arkansas at Centennial Park for a true test of early season skills. It'll be a tough race, and talent from the whole country will be on display.
Those states with Fall leagues will be deep in their season - well trained and fit for Regionals. Spring leagues will just be beginning our training for the year. If you want to be competitive at Regionals, you'll need to train during the off-season. If you decide that want to continue your training, check out the pages here for off-season advice.
Only high school athletes are invited to the Regionals, no middle school athletes will be allowed to race even if they've cat'd up to a HS category.
Keep an eye out for other race series in the state to keep your race-skills sharp!
Last chance, help the Maroons - the team gets 1/2 the funds you contribute for a Maroon athlete or the team at large.
Make sure you share our fundraiser with your friends and family. You can win a bike! Find your personal page and share it with friends and family: https://texasmtb.rallyup.com/8abd31/t/bc8631/Members/Details.
100% of funds raised go back to teams and student athletes. Our team keeps 50%, with remaining funds going to grants and scholarships.
Grand prize is a TREK SUPERCALIBER SL9.7 mountain bike!
I want to make sure that all coaches know how thankful we are for all your help this season. This season wouldn't have been possible without all of your effort, input, and time. Y'all make Shreddy Maroo proud!
210 hours of scheduled practices across 90 different days, average 8 coaches a practice. 1600 hours.
280 hours of race weekends, average 12 coaches a race. 3,300 hours.
10 level 1 coaches = 40 hours of training
9 Level 2 coaches = 108 hours of training
2 Level 3 coaches = 48 hours of training
Beyond the coaching, so much else happens that coaches contribute to. Planning of practices, race weekends, and meals. Cooking, camp set up, pit set-up and tear-down. Pre-rides, Mark-ups, warm-ups, feeds, and pit support.
From the bottom of our hearts - thanks coaches!
On or around May 11th, 2025 you'll receive the AHS MTB end of season survey.
All parents, coaches, and athletes are strongly encouraged to participate in the survey. It's your team, we want to hear your voice.
This survey will cover everything from costs to coaching, values to volunteering. It will take between 10 and 30 minutes, so set aside some time to help the team grow!
There are individualized question sets for athletes, coach/parents, coaches, and parents.
The survey will be anonymous; you will have an opportunity at the end to enter contact information if you'd like us to follow-up with you.
