We're deep in the season now, with 4 races behind us and only 1 more contest before State Championships.
Congrats to everyone who raced Reveille Peak and Troy! Our team turned in incredible performances. We have some very consistent athletes and we have quite a few racers who are moving up steadily in their fields. Keep up the good work Maroons
Two weeks until our 5th race of 2025 on April 13th! The Wrangle in Warda at Bluff Creek Ranch. This venue is one of the (if not the) first mountain bike courses in Texas. Many of our coaches have been racing this course since the early 90s. Steeped in history, this incredible race venue under East Texas pines and live oaks is an awesome venue and fun challenge. This is South only race.
Note, we are riding the venue this coming Saturday, the 5th. To be there by 9am you'll need to leave Austin by 7:45. We'll have plenty of time at the venue to put in several good laps and work on race-craft, corners, and time savings.
Thirty-four days until the final contest of the season on May 3rd - the Lonestar Finale. It's a winner-takes-all contest for the Texas State Championship. Win the race, get the crown, wear the jersey.
As the season enters it's final leg, take the time to drop a note in the suggestion box. We'll have a more thorough end of season survey, but this is an opportunity to let us know what you like and what we can improve in the final weeks of this season.
Parents, grandparents, siblings - raise your hand to help make the camping and meals even better! Email the weekend race directors to be a big part of great weekends!
Everyone - at these races be sure to take pictures and upload them to the gallery.

To quote the 90's rap visionary, Ice Cube: "You better SHEG yo' self, before you wreck yo' self"
This month, we’re spotlighting ‘S' - Shoes .
Shoes - you're all wearing them but some of you need to think about a bike-specific upgrade. Bicycling shoes have stiffer soles to prevent fatigue and increase pedaling efficiency. They have added protection around the toe box and leading edges of the shoe to mitigate impacts. Cycling shoes soles are specific to the sport, with 'stealth' rubber which is both more durable for walking but easier to puncture for sharpened pedal pins. Many also have the ability to add cleats which will clip into your pedals to allow riders to not only push on the pedals using their quads but pull on the pedals with their hamstrings. Furthermore, they either have Velcro, BOA, or some sort of strap to prevent shoestrings from causing entrapment.
Let's look back at 2 great race weekends!
This was an awesome venue, incredible trail, and a great weekend. The course was just rocky enough to give our team an advantage but the blown out corners were there to catch the overconfident. Athletes were treated to some fun sessioning, good music (DJ and live acoustic), and team comradery with a hike to the cross at the top of Reveille Peak.
Austin High ranked 11th in the state, Austin High Composite Middle School ranked 4th in the state. Results
Troy started with an epic coaches race featuring the Maroons taking the field led by Cynthia of Troy.
We also got the Golden Spoon for Amelia's cookies - very nice!
Our riders had pretty great rides and we have quite a few Maroons who are in the race for a season-long South Conference Series award. Keep up the great work athletes!

Well chat, we're 4 races in and only have 2 left. Training in earnest for those series titles and State Championship medals is well underway.
It's time to really think about your goals.
All of you that have raced have met expectations - finished the race. That's huge.
Many of you have even realized your goals - top 25, top 10, podiums. Congratulations athletes - we're proud of you.
Some of you may have even realized your stretch goals (top 10, top 5, 1st place, win by 3 minutes, etc.).
I want everyone to take a minute to decide what the rest of the season is going to hold for you. Are you going to take it chill? Are you going to double down on HIIT intervals? Are you planning on taking that State Championship title and wearing the Champion's Jersey next year? Give yourself time to ponder your goals, your real wants, and then speak with coaching to see what we can do to help you make it happen.
Make sure you share our fundraiser with your friends and family. You can win a bike! Find your personal page and share it with friends and family: https://texasmtb.rallyup.com/8abd31/t/bc8631/Members/Details. Maroons are currently sitting in 3rd place in the fund-raising race!
100% of funds raised go back to teams and student athletes. Our team keeps 50%, with remaining funds going to grants and scholarships.
Grand prize is a TREK SUPERCALIBER SL9.7 mountain bike. Incentives for athlete participation include drawings for Gear Bags, Gift Baskets and a SuperCaliber Trek bike.
Warm-ups. We need to be 100% sure to warm the kids up and get them to the chute on time. Tyler, Tim, and Cindy are doing a great job of the actual warm-ups, but we need all coaches and parents on deck to make sure athletes have plates, bib numbers and water and are ready to ride 30 min before staging. No exceptions, warm-ups don't wait and an un-prepped physiology is a recipe for a bad day.
Safety is the primary driver for PODs. If you see safety infractions, if athletes do not follow coaching direction, if you witness any behavior that is unsafe (unsafe passing, blocking, etc.) please be sure to report it using the Safety Violation on the secure coaching site.
Keep an eye on our riders, we're looking at race results and practice performance for POD arrangement and progression. Let leadership know if you have thoughts.
