Regular practice starts THIS Saturday, November 1st with the time trial - Get stoked!
Note: This special Time Trial practice meets at Moonshadow. Don't go to ATX Bikes.
Last day to order team kit - Thursday, November 6th. If you fail to buy a kit, you can not race this year
I was just informed that Agile (our kit manufacturer) will start collecting sales tax on November 1st, so order before the 1st to save on tax.
TeamSnap is now our primary means of communication. Email will be sporadic, please install and monitor TeamSnap daily.
With the holidays approaching, be sure to go into TeamSnap and mark your availability for the coming weeks/months.
We need pictures for our galleries this year. Athletes, parents, coaches make an effort to snap pics at practice, races, and social events. When you get a good one, please use the submit links at the top of the gallery.
We are working on T-shirts, Hoodies, Beanies, and Socks. Purchase forms coming soon!
Travis Country Jingle Bell Ride is December 20th. Mark your attendance and plan to be there. This is a huge outreach event for the team. AHS coaches and senior athletes will be responsible for helping guide small PODS of upwards of 200 residents on established routes through the neighborhood. This is a fun event and goes a long way to ingratiating us with the neighbors we ride around every week. Furthermore, it's a NICA Team Trail Corps event and it's 4.5 hours long. Thus, if we get just half of our coaches and riders to assist, that's > 100 hours AHS will log towards TTC in one fun night! Finally, you can win prizes and your family is invited if you volunteer!
We've had some great pre-season rides this October!
We've hosted almost 40 different riders this pre-season. We've seen some trail, hit some gnarly features, ripped some corners, and made some new friends.
This season is going to be rad. The league has great courses picked out this year and the team is gelling well.
How about that Halloween History? Scary stories are better when they're true...
To quote the 90's rap visionary, Ice Cube: "You better SHEG yo' self, before you wreck yo' self"
This month, we’re spotlighting ‘T’ - Tools.
Every rider is expected to carry repair tools with them on every ride. Review our updated Accessories page for tool kit components. Be sure to check out Lights as well!
So, this year we're required to check riders in and make sure they have all the essentials and lights before they're released from their guardians.
We threw an application together for coaches to check in riders. It's been in use and seems to be working. You can easily check riders in, view the season calendar, pull up near-by tech features for kids to ride, see Strava routes and load immediately, etc.
Good job to all the coaches who showed up and took advantage of this offering. Feedback was good and it's likely that we can do more of these in the future. Some interesting learnings/realizations:
We're all pretty much self-taught. Thus, we have issues finding the words to communicate the skills we've mastered. Communication is hard...
All of us have holes in our skills. From basic to complex, every single coach learned how to ride better (including the teachers).
Coaches this year are better equipped to guide athletes after these training sessions
We want all coaches attending CnD group rides. Do it. Go race the TORS Newbie category - it's free!
As a non-profit 501(c)3 entity, we are dedicated to our mission of building lifelong cyclists through Safety, Respect, Hard Work, and Fun.
As a volunteer organization, we rely on the help of the parents of our athletes. As such, we will expect that all families contribute of their time. We have many volunteer opportunities on race weekends, the most important of which is handling the meals for your athletes. Please review these opportunities and let our team director know how you'll be contributing this season to help make another incredible year.
The Texas Off-Road Race Series is a new series to Texas
NICA coaches and student-athletes receive a 25% discount on race registration.
There are 2 races left in the Austin area, just past the Austin Airport in Dale at the Rally Ready race track.
ALL races and race series we mention that are not specifically on the NICA calendar are not supported by the team and are strictly for information. You can expect no support, no coaching, and un-sanitized courses. I.E. - these are likely to be more difficult and have dangerous features that are not usually seen on a NICA course. TORS and TMBRA are non-NICA events and fall squarely within these caveats. That said, racing is fun 😜
